After winning the Spanish league championship Tuesday with his Real Madrid team, Slovenia’s Luka Doncic will travel to New York City and attend Thursday’s NBA draft, sources said.
Doncic will leave for New York on Wednesday, sources said, and will be one of 20 players sitting in the Green Room at Barclays Center. His mother and grandmother also will be sitting at his table, as well as his mother’s boyfriend, sources said.
Doncic, slated to go fourth overall to the Memphis Grizzlies in ESPN’s latest mock draft, helped Real Madrid to the Spanish league title thanks to a 96-85 victory over Kirolbet Baskonia in Game 4 of the ACB playoffs.
The 6-foot-8 point guard had eight points, eight rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes, hitting a memorable one-handed 3-pointer off one leg as the shot clock ran down to keep Vitoria at bay late.
The ACB title is just the latest this past season for Doncic, who already had won the Euroleague championship last month and Eurobasket in September with the Slovenian national team. He was named MVP of both the ACB and Euroleague regular seasons, as well as the Euroleague Final Four.
The green room is a staging area near the draft podium where players, families and associates await NBA commissioner Adam Silver to call their names upon selection.
The list of college players who will be in the room: Arizona’s Deandre Ayton, Duke’s Marvin Bagley III, Michigan State’s Jaren Jackson Jr., Texas’ Mo Bamba, Alabama’s Collin Sexton, Oklahoma’s Trae Young, Duke’s Wendell Carter, Missouri’s Michael Porter, Villanova’s Mikal Bridges, Kentucky’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Michigan State’s Miles Bridges, Kentucky’s Kevin Knox, Texas A&M’s Robert Williams, Miami’s Lonnie Walker, Villanova’s Donte DiVincenzo, Texas Tech’s Zhaire Smith, Boston College’s Jerome Robinson, Boise State’s Chandler Hutchison and UCLA’s Aaron Holiday.
